What to do with Pumpkin Seeds

Get the most out of your Halloween Pumpkin

Happy Halloween from all of us here at Kitsch! We hope that you have a safe and wonderful holiday, and we would love to see your costumes! Feel free to tag us on instagram @kitschhairties or shoot us an email

We hope you enjoy this great way to get rid of the pumpkin filling that you might end up with after a night of pumpkin carving!

Here is a great way for you to get a healthy dose of Omega 3's (coconut oil), fiber (pumpkin seeds) and metabolism boosting antioxidant (cinnamon) without having to do anything other than clean out your Halloween pumpkin! Enjoy!!

Note: Ingredient amounts are based on 2 cups of seeds. Adjust accordingly (up/down) or based on your taste preference.
  • 2 cups raw pumpkin seeds, washed and patted dry (or whatever yields from your pumpkin)
  • 1 tbsp. organic coconut oil
  • ¼ tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. Celtic sea salt

1. Remove seeds from pumpkin, wash in colander, remove bits of pulp, and pat dry.
2. In a small bowl, toss seeds, coconut oil (you may have to heat it on the stovetop to get it to melt down so that you can toss it through), cinnamon, and salt.
3. Spread evenly on baking sheet and roast at 400 degrees for 20 minutes, tossing halfway through.

How to wear Bold Colors

Tips on wearing bold colors

Have you ever wondered the secret behind wearing all of these hot colors without looking like a flash-dance reject? Well here is the trick--moderation! Also, treating them as "accent colors" will definitely allow you to look effortlessly chic without a POP (of color).

  • Bold lips are quite possibly my favorite way to incorporate color into your outfit. Coral, Orange, Red, pink- all great hues to try and mix in with a minimalist look. Also, it's low commitment and inexpensive so if it doesn't work, don't worry about it!
  • Hair ties! Duh, this should have been an obvious one but I am obsessed with our "she's electric" collection. They are great and vibrant for days at the gym or even paired with your favorite music festival outfit. Kind on your hair, and cute on your wrist- you can't go wrong with these babies.
  • Statement Bags This beauty from Ashard Richley is an excellent way to add color to your fall wardobe. It's also a great piece for someone who is on the go since you can use it as a clutch OR a tablet holder. My ipad always feels nice and cozy.
  • Neon Nails Opi and Essie have great colors that are perfect for a night out. Skip the french manicure and go for an excellent yellow or even green!
  • Jewelry This awesome bracelet can be found on our website and is the perfect mix of classy crystals with funky from the skull and bright color. Wear this with your hair ties and you've got a great layered look.
  • Be BOLD! Finally, if you really want to make sure that you are seen you can definitely go for the main portion of your outfit in a bold color of your choice. However, make sure that you are pairing it with a minimalist nude heel so that you don't look over the top. Remember the thin line- and be careful not to cross it!

Popular Fall Nail Trends

Vampy Colors & Different Nail Shapes

Fall nails are all about vampy colors and different shapes. Dark and mysterious shades have been seen in all of the popular fashion magazines from Harpers Bazaar to Vogue and even on your favorite celebrities! Here are some of our favorite colors from Essie and tips on how to get your nails to whatever shape you'd like! Are you simple and classy or bold and edgy?

Oval: File the tip of the nail into an egg shape, and file away some of the side of the nails, this does weaken the nails to some extent but is ideally suited to nails that are thick or wide as it gives them a more delicate appearance.

Square: Created by allowing the nail to grow out straight and then filing the tip straight across at right angles with the rest of the nail plate. This is again quite a strong nail shape but is not particularly flattering. Short square shaped nails can make hands look blunt and heavy. This is best for drawing attention to long nails.

Round: deal for shorter nails, the nail is allowed to grow out straight at the sides for approximately 1.5mm and then the tip is filed into a rounded shape. This is a strong shape which is great for those who keep their nails short.

Pointed: Nails are filed away at the sides to a point at the tip; this shape is very weak as the sides of the nail (which provide the strength) are totally lost.

What are you going to try on your nails this week? Take photos and make sure you hashtag #kitsch so that we can see what you chose! Haven't found us yet? Follow us @kitschhairties

Inspirational Sunday

A Quote on Kindness

Emanuel Swedenborg, was a Swedish philosopher, scientist and theologian (of course this was back before the days of student loans!) who many thought was divinely inspired. His views on the treatment of others, and ways of living are truly something that we should all notice. This week, when you have a frustrating moment- remember kindness. When you wake up in the morning, make the conscious decision to make your life one that is full of kindness. The benefits will be felt by everyone, and you will ultimately feel better with all of that positive energy coursing through your veins.

“Kindness is an inner desire that makes us want to do good things even if we do not get anything in return. It is the joy of our life to do them. When we do good things from this inner desire, there is kindness in everything we think, say, want and do.”

-Emanuel Swedenborg

When Calories Matter

More is sometimes less, kind of..

As women, we've all been trained to watch the calorie content of foods. However, there are some foods that should be swapped and sometimes that does mean more calories! This is an important lesson that life isn't about calories, it's about healthy choices- and clean eating!

Skip the crackers and go for the nuts! Nuts are packed with lovely Omega-3's which are heart healthy, and protein keep you fuller longer where the crackers are just processed carbs! Although having proper carbohydrates is important for a healthy diet- skip the crackers and grab a sweet potato.

Skip the froyo and go for coconut milk ice cream! The coconut milk ice cream might be a bit higher on the fat side (the good fats!) and a bit more calorically dense but all that fat free frozen yogurt is just genetically engineered sugary waste. Often times you'll feel unsatisfied, or feel obligated to load the yogurt up with toppings and unfortunately sour gummy worms definitely don't land on anyone's list of health foods. Pick up a vegan-friendly pint of coconut milk ice cream and feel satisfied.

Skip the sour cream and go for the guacamole! Avocados might be one of the most heavenly vegetables on the planet (although there is the debate that they are a fruit) however, next time you decide to go for mexican, make sure that you skip the sour cream and cheese and opt for guacamole! The calorie content might be a bit higher, but between the fiber, Omega-3's and health benefits (that include beautiful skin and healthy hair!) this one should ultimately be a no-brainer. Ole!

What types of changes have you made for your health??

Last Minute Halloween Costumes

Kitsch's Halloween Ideas

Okay! It's Friday afternoon, and hopefully you've sorted out your Halloween costumes- if not, here are some great tips to help you throw something together.

Golden Goddess

All you need for this is a pair of gladiator sandals, rope, a gold glitter headband and a bed sheet! Make sure you do up your eye makeup so that you pull off the true Cleopatra look (below is of Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra- AMAZING!) and you've got the perfect Goddess ensemble. Don't know how to do a Toga? We've already planned it out for you! Make sure you wear the headband across your forehead to make it more of a headpiece!

    • Hold the corner of a top flat bed sheet in one hand. Grasp the sheet with your other hand, leaving about 6 inches between the corner of the sheet and your hand. Bring the sheet across the front of your body without letting go of the corner.
    • Raise your opposite arm, bending your elbow at a 90-degree angle. Drape the sheet over the front of this arm, then bring it between your body and arm, near your armpit.
    • Wrap the sheet around your back. Tuck the sheet under your other armpit with your other hand. Make sure the sheet fits snuggly. If you feel like you're going to lose your toga halfway through the night, draw it more tightly around you.
    • Tie the 2 exposed corners of the bed sheet in a knot. The knot should rest on top of one of your shoulders. You might have to adjust the sheet to move the knot into the right place.
    • Wrap a bathrobe belt around the toga is the sheet is too long. Pull the sheet up until the bottom is the correct length (about mid-calf) and tie the belt. Smooth the top of the sheet down over the belt so that it can't be seen.
    Tiny Dancer
This classy costume is simple- leotard, swan lake hair ties and cute top bun! You can either be authentic and choose to grab some ballerina slippers, or just keep it simple and wear your favorite flats! With a costume this cute, no one will be looking at your feet anyway!

    The Power of Positive Thinking

Healthy Mind, Healthy Soul, Healthy Body

One of our wonderful interns put together this great post on the power of positive thinking! Do you practice the rules of positivity?

The Power of Positive Thinking .. look towards the light in every situation. Staying healthy is as much mental as it is physical. So, before you focus your energy on your next gym session work on your mind. At Kitsch we are always eager to learn more about the power we have over our own thoughts, and where that can lead us. Kitsch’s CEO Cassandra is a strong advocate for Dr. Wayne Dwyer’s (author, motivational speaker and counselor) words of wisdom when it comes to the impact positive thinking can have over your life and your health. These are some of my favorite motivational quotes that are excellent to read when you need a little mind rejuvenation.

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by, and
that has made all the difference.” -
    Robert Frost

    “Happiness is not something you
postpone for the future; it is
something you design for the present.”
    -John Rohn

    “Confidence is contagious.”-
    Vince Lombardi

    “You can only become truly
    accomplished at something you love.
Don’t make money your goal. Instead
pursue the things you love doing and
then do them so well that people can’t
take their eyes off of you.”
    -Maya Angelo

    “Change the changeable, accept the
    unchangeable, and remove yourself
    from the unacceptable.”
    -Denis Waitley

“To be yourself in a world that is
    constantly trying to make you
    something else is the greatest
     - Raph Waldo Emerson

“The trick is not how much pain you
feel–but how much joy you feel. Any
idiot can feel pain. Life is full of excuses
to feel pain, excuses not to live, excuses,
    excuses, excuses.”
    -Erica Jong

“The reason we struggle with insecurity
is because we compare our behind-the-
scenes with everyone else’s highlights reel.”
    -Steven Furtick

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask
what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
     -Howard Thurman

    Great Halloween Healthy Treats

    A Chilled Halloween Treat

Want a great treat that won't make you overdose on calories this Halloween? Since the California weather keeps changing it's mind, here is a chilly treat that will delight your taste buds without hurting your health.

    Halloween Pops

    • 1 cup pure Concord grape juice
    • 3/4 cup fresh lemon juice (from 4 lemons)
    • 2/3 cup sugar
    • 6 raisins, halved
    • 12 small honeydew melon balls (from 1/2 melon)

    Scariest Movies of All Time

    Best Halloween Movies

Are you planning a pre-halloween bash with some of your closest pals? Make sure that you pick the right flicks if you are thinking of a movie night! With so many options it's important to make sure you find the truly frightening films! Here are a few of my top picks... what are yours?!

The Poltergeist Were you ever terrified that you had moved into an area that used to be a Native American burial ground before? I'm sure you did if you grew up watching this movie! This would be one that would make it difficult for me to sleep. The "curse" of the movie is even creepier!  Note to self: Definitely don't watch this alone this halloween. How about around breakfast time before my day? Maybe I can handle that...

The Ring The Japanese tend to do a lot of things wonderfully. Especially scary movies! This American remake of the Japanese horror-classic was absolutely frightening. I can take people in scary masks, but a girl who walks out of your TV but lives in a well? I'm still not sure that I understand this movie entirely, but I do know that it terrified me when I watched it (half watched it, I should say because my eyes were mostly closed!).

The Exorcist This original is one that I probably don't ever want to watch again, but will probably get a masochistic kick out of when I decide to. Although I don't like to look at the religious side of it, because it's JUST a movie. I will admit that anything involving ghosts or spirits is much more frightening than a serial killer, after all we've learned from Dexter that they have hearts too!

I haven't even watched these movies yet and I am creeped out! What films are on your list of scariest movies?? Are you going to watch them before Halloween?!

    Instagram Giveaway

    #kitschhairties #freebies

Hello lovely readers! We're pleased to announce that we will be giving away some amazing hair ties through an instagram giveaway! You've only got a couple days, so make sure you follow @kitschhairties and follow the instructions! GOOD LUCK! xx

    How to: Messy Side Braid

    The Easy hairstyle celebrities love!

Do you love the idea of having a messy side braid but can't seem to get it right? Here is a quick and easy way to be able to get it done, Kitsch style! I used two of my favorite hair ties from the Golden Goddess collection, but you can use whatever works best for you!

    1. Starting with bed head, or second day hair is ALWAYS the best! It already has a bit of texture, which makes everything else so easy!
    2. Take part of your top layer of hair, and leave it out of the braid. Don't worry if you feel like it's TOO long, we will curl it (and you can even pin it) if you need to get it moved back.
    3. Take the rest and start to braid your hair, in a traditional braid.
    4. Secure with Kitsch hair ties, I chose two- but you can really do whatever works best for you. I love to layer different ones to complete my look.
    5. Get funky! Start to gently pull at the braid, we don't want it to look perfect, that's the whole point!
    6. Wrap the other section of your hair around a 3/4 inch curling iron. Don't use the prongs, just wrap around the barrel so you can get a spiral curl.
    7. Brush out the curls and pin if necessary. Secure with spray, and rock your new look all day!
Have you tried this? Do you love the side braid look!?

    Reasons To Vote

Election day is around the corner!

    1. You talk about it on Facebook Our generation has become the poster child for extreme social media. Anything that happens politically is blast across the social networks. It's great that people are staying informed on social topics, but if you are going to vent or voice your opinion- make sure you are doing it where it REALLY counts, on a ballot.
    2. Because it's your future Ultimately a candidate can't do everything they want to in a four year period of time. However, things that they will put into action will ultimately effect you, if not immediately, sometime in the future. With all of the debates over social security, socialized medicare and opinions of war it's important to make sure that you exercise your right to make a difference. Grandma is still going to get her social security check, but are you?
    3. It's a democracy, or at least it's indented to be Our founding fathers intended this beautiful country to be founded on a democracy, and in order for that to really be true- we've all got to vote! Did you know in the last election only around 60% of the eligible voting age actually went to the polls? It's a sad statistic considering the fact that 95% of the people complain.
    4. 100 years ago, us ladies weren't able to vote It hasn't even been 100 years since women were given the right to vote. The honorable ladies who fought for these rights would not be pleased to know that we've thrown them away because we're too lazy, uninterested or just simply don't make it a priority.
    5. Why? BECAUSE YOU CAN! The most straight forward reason to vote- is simply because of the fact that you are able to. You aren't living in a country of communism, with a dictator or royal family. Every four years you are given the power to change the direction of the political climate of America. This allows us pass laws, shoot them down, change lives for the better and make sure that the one individual in charge of running our country is someone we are proud to have.
Yesterday was totally fun, but you've got to be real sometimes!

    Presidential Election 2012

Romney & Obama Discuss Important Topics

Do you wonder what REALLY goes on in the Candidates' mind's?

    How is that for camaraderie?

Please note: This is not a political statement, it's just plain FUN!  And don't forget to VOTE!

    Wild Roses Style Guide

    Simple, girly and chic

This week I have been obsessed with the Wild Roses collection that we have! It's such a great fall transition look and works with so many hot trends!
    • Mixing Patterns is a huge statement this season, I love the idea of mixing the striped and blocked patterned sweater with the floral pattern from our Wild Roses hair ties.
    • Wine-Time Wine colored makeup is definitely making a comeback. The vampy-dark lips and sultry nails will bring a sexy edge to such a sweet outfit. Country girl gone rogue? I think so!
    • Chambray Craze Chambray (that light denim dress) is a denim wash that is refreshing for fall. So-long dark indigos and black washes, hello soft vintage denims!
    • Mixed Metals Although these two glorious Kitsch pieces are from a different collection, I love when different metals are used. The mix between rose gold and yellow gold definitely bring out the soft, feminine feel of the Wild Rose look.
Even though we're wild, we still love pretty things!

    A Tip From Ellie Goulding

    Anything Can Happen

One important thing to note about life, is that it is truly limitless. Whatever you feel is impossible, or holding you back- keep in mind that even that Anything Possible. Although this video is a bit off the wall, I'm completely obsessed with it and Ellie Goulding!

    Enjoy the amazingness!

    Frighteningly Fit

    Sweet ways to stay Healthy

Snickers, candy corn, candied apples, m&ms, mars bars, starbursts, skittles, twix, gummies... I think you get the point, right? Halloween is truly a time of temptation and hauntingly good delights, so here are a couple of ways to make sure that you stay fit and healthy.

Fun-sized Oh fun-sized candies, how wonderful. Just think, perfectly portioned nibbles that allow you to take a bite without over-indulging. Except for the fact that one usually turns into four, which then turns out to have totally defeated the purpose of fun-sized. In order to force yourself into moderation, freeze the leftovers from your trick-o-treating bunch. This will make it so that you have to physically get up, get a candy eat it and leave. Even little differences help because at least you won't be boredom eating.

Sweat the Sweets Away! Take advantage of the beautiful Autumn weather by going for a jog outside. The outdoors totally beats the treadmill if you are keen for a run. If not, make sure that you are the first one on the dance floor at all of the Halloween parties! What better way to stay in shape then by showing off some sweet moves with your girls? All that matters is that you are staying active and healthy! If you've got the right routine going on then rewarding yourself with a couple treats is no big deal!

Go Against the Grain! Be the one who decides to opt for healthy snacks instead of the sugary sweets that normally are passed out. Whether you are throwing a party for grown ups, or passing out to the kiddos, you can definitely be creative! If you are throwing a dinner party serve fresh fruit, alongside the candy bowls. Also, if you want to pass out something different to the neighborhood kids, why don't you try stickers, toys or even your favorite hair ties!

What are you going to dish up this Halloween? What is your costume!? How are you incorporating your favorite headbands and hair ties into the mix? Let us know at

    Spinach & Skulls

    A Chic Halloween Recipe

Who needs candy corn when you can throw a grown up recipe into the mix? This is a great addition to your grown up halloween party, that everyone is sure to love!

    • 1 container (15 ounces) part-skim ricotta cheese
    • Olive-oil, cooking spray
    • 1 bunch fresh spinach (or a 10-ounce bag), stems removed, washed well and dried
    • 1 1/2 cups loosely packed fresh basil leaves (from 1 bunch)
    • 1/4 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
    • Coarse salt and fresh ground pepper
    • 2 large whole eggs, plus 1 egg white
    • Crackers, for serving

    1. Wrap ricotta tightly in cheesecloth; place in a colander over a large bowl. Place a heavy object (such as a bowl or canned good) on top; let drain in the refrigerator at least 3 hours (or up to overnight).
    2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat a 10-inch springform pan with cooking spray. In a food processor, combine drained ricotta, spinach, basil, nutmeg, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Process until smooth, about 1 minute, scraping sides of bowl as needed. Add whole eggs and egg white; process for 5 seconds. Pour mixture into prepared pan; bake until set and just brown around the edges, 30 to 35 minutes. Let cool completely on a wire rack, then refrigerate, covered, until cold, preferably overnight. To unmold, run a paring knife around edge before removing side of pan.
    3. Cut into quarters. Using a wide spatula, transfer to a cutting board coated with cooking spray. Cut out shapes with a skull-shaped cookie cutter coated with spray (if cutter doesn't come with eyes and a mouth, use aspic cutters to make features). Using a cotton swab, gently press skulls out directly onto crackers (leave eye and nose shapes in cutter).
What are you going to add to your menu this holiday?

    It's a Hairy Situation

Hot new hair trends for fall

From the red carpet to the runways, new hair trends are happening everywhere! Say goodbye to tight curls, and Jersey Shore inspired looks. Fall hair trends are all about attention to detail and feminine beauty. Check out some of my favorites! (with tutorials to come!)

Absolutely Bangin' The thing bangs are back in full force! If you've got a heart shaped face, like Carrie Underwood then bangs are super flattering! Even pop sensation Carly Rae Jepsen shows the bangs with a vixen appeal, and New Girl Zooey Deschanel keeps it soft and vintage.

Bump it Up (but keep it classy!) This runway look for fall 2012 shows a great use of headbands and hair ties! The volume is the perfect mixture of sass and sophistication!
Crowning Around The crown braid has been seen all over the runway! Have you checked out our brilliant tutorial on how to style your version with a Kitsch twist!

On the down-low Keep volume minimal when hair is down, this gives a much more effortless chic appeal. One of the best ways to get this look is to take air-dried hair and either pull back into a loose bun or a side braid and leave overnight. Since your hair is dried it won't be too defined but by pulling it tight at the roots, you will take away the top volume. Middle parts are also huge for fall, so keep that in mind as well!

Perfect Pony Buh-bye messy ponies! It's all about the slick, refined look now. Make sure that you keep yourself from looking too serious by using a great Kitsch hair tie. A metallic hair tie would be too perfect!
Twists! Simple, sophisticated and just a little sexy. Twists are replacing braids in certain looks, I love this half up/half down trend!

So many trends to suit so many different girls! One of the best things about the trends is that they are SO versatile!

    Leaves, Layers & Autumn Style

    Fall Sweater Guide

With temperatures dropping (which I might say, is definitely questionable considering the temperature fluctuations in California) it's time to start shopping around for some great sweaters to add to your wardrobe. Whether you decide to pair them with a mini, leggings or your favorite jeans, make sure that you grab some of these amaaazing sweaters!

(starting from the top middle, going clockwise)
    • Oversized cable-knit sweaters are a great way to add an American classic to your wardrobe. This one from J.crew is effortlessly chic.
    • Asymmetrical sweaters are in full force this season, with high end designers like Balenciaga lining up beauties like this. You could be a complete vixen (without freezing!) by pairing this with leggings and high heeled boots! Add some Kitsch hair ties, and complete the look with a high bun.
    • Nasty Gal never fails to please, especially with this simple kit and strategically placed cut outs. Although this sweater is definitely for warmer climates (California girls!) it can definitely be mixed into any wardrobe.
    • Sweater dresses will always have a special place in my heart, and this block-stripped item is no exception. Pair this with textured tights and booties for a casual look, or ditch the tights and grab nude heels to take it out!
    • Any type of embellishing is a big fall/winter trend, especially with sweaters! Modcloth has a great selection for any holiday occassion.
    • It's all about the details with this feminine scalloped edge sweater from American Eagle. Just think of a cozy Saturday morning and a fall latte! Perfection!
    • Lastly, I adore anything vintage inspired. This simple collared sweater is a steal from Forever 21 !
What sweaters are you loving this fall??

    Feed your FACE

    keep your skin happy!

The term "you are what you eat" obviously is not something that can be taken too seriously. However, what you put it says a whole lot about what's going on with the outside of your body, even your face! Here is a list of things that everyone should be consuming in order to make sure that your largest organ is taken care of. Put down the junk food and start incorporating these into your regular diet!

Avocados have an abundance of b-complex vitamins and essential fatty oils. Almost 1/3 of your recommended B3 (Niacin) intake is in one of these lovely green veggies. Niacin is an anti-inflammatory and helps soothe skin! Try out this great recipe to get these into your regular routine!

    Avocado Salad

    • 2/3 cup black beans, rinsed and drained
    • 1/2 cup corn, drained
    • 1/2 cup packaged shredded carrots, lightly packed
    • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves
    • 1/2 cup prepared chunky salsa
    • green onions, thinly sliced
    • 10 drops red pepper sauce
    • ripe, Fresh Hass Avocados, cut in half and seeded
    • small bunches of radish or alfalfa sprouts

    1. In a bowl, combine beans, corn, carrots, cilantro, salsa, green onion and red pepper sauce.
    2. Fill each avocado shell with 1/4 of bean mixture.
    3. Garnish with sprouts and serve

Mangoes are absolutely delicious and heavily contain Vitamin A! One mango contains almost 80% of your recommended amount. Vitamin A helps with free radical damages, so if you've been naughty this summer and bronzed your heart out- make sure you are stocking up on Mangoes!

Flaxseed Oil is rich in omega 3s and great for your skin, but did you know that flaxseed oil is one of the best sources of this essential fatty acid? Leave the fishes alone and get your oil from here!

Now that you've got three foods that will keep your skin and radiant (even in this crazy weather!) make sure to stock up! How do you use these three ingredients?

    Pumpkin Pie Pudding

    Fall flavor without the guilt!

One of my favorite things about fall, other than the lovely weather change and awesome boots, is anything pumpkin flavored. The delicious Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte (with soy) packs a whopping 300 calories and 10 grams of fat, FOR A TALL! I don't know about you, but the only thing I want to layer this season is my sweaters. Here is a great way to incorporate the fall flavors without having to worry about healthy eating!

Pumpkin Pie Chia Pudding (gluten-free, vegan, sugar-free)
    serves 2-4 – makes approximately 3 cups
1 cup  coconut milk (the canned kind – lite or full-fat)
1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or other non-dairy milk of your choice)
    1 cup pumpkin puree
    2 teaspoons vanilla
    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
    pinch of ground cloves
    5 medjool dates, pits removed
    3 tablespoons chia seeds

Puree everything but the chia seeds in a blender until smooth, combined and thick. You may see a few little bits of the dates still, it’s OK. Pour the mixture into a glass bowl or a mason jar, stir in the chia seeds. Make sure to stir well to combine. Cover the bowl or put the lid on the jar. Keep in the refrigerator overnight or for at least 4 hours.
Spoon or pour into bowls, top with a sprinkle of cinnamon and maybe even some fresh whipped coconut cream, if you wish. Serve cool or room temperature.

    Hello Hump Day!

Four ways to get through the work week

I'm not sure about you, but Halloween certainly one of my favorite times of year. The idea of having to go through a couple more days (no matter how much I love my job!) before being able to dress up and begin celebrations, is really tough. Here are some tips to create a more productive you:

Log out of Facebook Yes, it sounds horrific but not having that distraction is pretty amazing. Have you ever had an "unplugged" weekend? It's amazing how easily you can get distracted over the idea of writing on a friends wall, or seeing what your ex is up to. Focus on what is at hand, your boss will love you for it and 5pm will come quicker!

Make a To-Do list Oh, the terror of the list. Having an organized set of check points will help you work more efficiently for the week. When you want to think about other exciting things (like picking up faux lashes before the weekend) you will still be able to make sure that you are hitting clear details. Make sure that it outlines even the things you feel like you won't forget, because odds are you might forget them if you are in a rush.

Hit the gym (really hard!) Although minimal results can be obtained in three days, it really doesn't hurt to have that extra boost of confidence when you need it most. After all, most of the fun costumes are either short, midriff bearing or skin tight. You might as well feel your best if you are planning on looking your best! Don't forget to drink a lot of water and stretch afterward so that you don't get too sore!

Reward yourself! Whether it's happy hour, or a new pair of hair ties make sure that you reward yourself for productivity and getting through the week! If all else fails, I'm sure that you can find something fun to do Thursday night. Halloween festivities are a great excuse to make the weekend start a little earlier!

How to: Get him to notice you

Serious techniques for those on the market ;)

    • Have a little confidence Don't send the wrong signals to that cute guy across the room. You don't want to be a fiend for attention but at the same time, make sure that you are approachable. Look happy, be talkative, maybe even make a little eye contact.
    • Smile and make eye contact Whoever said that you should ALWAYS play hard to get probably ended up being that cat lady that you walk by on your morning runs. Make sure that you seem genuinely interested in the conversation, whether it's with him, his friend or those around you. Expressing general interest proves that you are emotionally available to people in your life, in order to be a good girlfriend you must first be an amazing friend!
    • Save the goods Don't go out wearing next to nothing, if you wonder why you aren't attracting the nice guys, it's probably because of the way you dress. Men and women see fashion completely differently, so what you wear might be considered edgy, but he will see it as easy. Pick one asset to show off, and leave the rest covered.

Also, never be this person ^^ also known as, category 5 clinger
